Website Rebooted!
Date: Tuesday, November 27th, 2009 | Posted by: Monk
I've recreated our broken PHP-based site into a regular HTML-based site. Every link should be working now. I may eventually convert this back partly to PHP for easier maintenance as it's kind of hard to update things with new content with the current structure of the site.
For the latest mapping resources, your best bet is to check out the Backlot Forum for now. The forum is due for some upgrading and stuff so you won't be able to make a new account just yet, but there should be some decent references in there in stickied threads, especially the 2007 mapping thread.
Clean Up Time!
Date: Monday, January 13th, 2003 | Posted by: Centurion
I'll be cleaning up dead links, old betas, and adding new content over the next week or so. With 2.3 approaching I want things to be in order.
Keep working on those maps!
Date: Friday, September 27th, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
Keep plugging away on those maps. There seems to be a lot of projects in the works by the community. Keep us updated on the progress so we can help you test or get your completed product in a release.
The team mappers are all active on new mapping projects.
3 New Beta Maps Added to the Drafting Board
Date: Monday, August 5th, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
Ginctown by God Incarnate, Neighbourhood by Coper, and Cliff by Karmann, have been added to the Drafting Board section. I'm having problems adding screenshots right now so no shots, but grab them anyway to give the mappers feedback. I'll get the shots up as soon as I can.
Edit: shots are up. Ginctown has been renamed Bumtown and there's a 2nd beta available.
New beta version of Spook's Amunra
Date: Wednesday, July 10th, 2002 | Posted by: Sze
A new version of Amunra Museum is available in the Drafting Board section. This will probably be the first community member map released. We're going to try to include it in the upcoming Beta 2.1 release, so make sure to give Spook feedback ASAP. If you had the older beta version, this one should overwrite it.
New beta version of fortcave
Date: Saturday, July 6th, 2002 | Posted by: Sze
Check out the Drafting Board for a new beta version of Forts & Caves by [CHAOS]Homicide. Make sure you delete the old version (fortcave.pk3) if you had it. Once you've played it, give him some feedback in the fortcave discussion thread.
Other news:
We're gearing up to release RQ3 Beta 2.1 in about two weeks. When it's released, I'll post a list of what mappers have to pay attention to. Look for an updated version of 420 Main and one or two new maps from the team.
Over the past couple weeks I've added a few new props: an updated set of qkennyq's bathroom fixtures (now in 4 colors), the palm & banana trees Shaymon created for Deepcanyon 2, and some orange traffic cones by yours truly.
Updated mapping files in the Closet
Date: Sunday, June 16th, 2002 | Posted by: Sze
Mappers, come and get the latest files for making Reaction maps, newly updated for use with Beta 2.0. In the closet are updated versions of the RQ3 mapping kit (entities.def, custinfoparms.txt, and rq3-mapping.pk3) and the RQ3 Surface Editor utility written by Makro. Instructions are included in the downloads.
Update: I also threw a test map into the closet to demonstrate all of the Beta 2.0 breakables. Due to a bug in Beta 2.0, this map will do weird things, but the breakables work. The bug has already been fixed for the upcoming 2.1 patch.
New screenshots of the beta 2.0 maps
Date: Monday, June 10th, 2002 | Posted by: Sze
In case you haven't heard, Reaction Quake 3 beta 2.0 will be released this Friday, June 14th. Check out the sets section for screenshots of all 16 of the maps that will be included.
In the upcoming weeks, I'll be revising all of the tutorials and instructions in the set design school. To let you know which I've gotten to, I'll add a 'Revised for beta 2' at the bottom of each page.
Slum City Beta by JesterRace Available for Download to Test
Date: Wednesday, April 17th, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
Yay! A map from one of our beta testers!
I'll quote Cannonfodder, "The most dangerous city-block you've ever stepped foot in...lock your doors and make sure your safety's off :)"
Go grab it in the drafting board section or click the link in the "Latest Beta Maps" window at the bottom right of the page.
Remember everyone the goal of posting beta maps is for you to give good feedback in the early stages of a map to make it even better for its final release. So really this is a way for you to be a RQ3 beta tester and not even know it. :p Get testing!

Main Board Back Up
Date: Tuesday, March 12th, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
We've finally put up the new board. Your going to have to re-register AGAIN, ugh. The board has a new format that is prettier, more functional, and has a auto backup feature so we won't keep having these problems. Go to http://www.rq3.com/phpBB2/
Main RQ3 Messageboard Hacked by the Evil Empire
Date: Monday, March 4th, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
Yay! Third times a charm! Something will be up about the new and improved board soon. Otherwise, beta 2 is in the bug crunching phase so get going on those maps!
The teamwork over the past month has been the best I've seen since we've started. Beta 2's going to be something special.
Amunra by Spook added to the Drafting Board

You'll have fun testing this one. It's a museum after an earthquake. Make sure to give Spook feedback in the forums.
Subway shots added
Date: Tuesday, January 29th, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
I added Subway by TTI to the Drafting Board. It's a team map so no download, but the shots are nice.
Two new beta maps up for Download!
Date: Monday, January 28th, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
We have our first two beta maps up in the Drafting Board section, Downtown by Nightcrawl, and Blackhouse by JesterRace. They both look promising. Go grab them and give feedback in the Sets & Props Forum.
Thanks to both of you for getting us started. Keep um' coming mappers!!
Welcome to the Backlot!
Date: Wednesday, January 23rd, 2002 | Posted by: Centurion
Hi everyone, welcome to the Backlot. This is one of the three new off-shoots of the Reaction Quake 3 homepage made for the community. Consider this site 'map central'. You'll find maps (beta & final releases), mapobjects, and mapping tools all here for your enjoyment. Sze and I will be running the show here. If you're not familiar with us, we're both mappers on the RQ3 team. Well, let's get to the meat. Here's a run down of what you'll find in each different area of the site:
Sets - Here you'll find all the final team and community maps for Reaction Quake 3. You'll be able to grab individual .pk3's for each map and view info and screenies.
Drafting Board - This is where you'll find all the beta maps in progress. Mappers who want feedback from the community should start a thread in our mapping forum (link on the left side) and include their map name, two 640x480 screenies, their email address, and a link to the .pk3 file. Or, a mapper could submit a map by emailing one of us. We'll post the map here and a thread will be generated automatically.
Set Design School - The Reaction Quake 3 mapping tutorial. This is a work in progress so keep checking back as we'll be adding topics and content from time to time. There's already some great info up, so give it a look if you want to map for Reaction Quake 3.
Set Props - Mappers are going to love this. This is our mapobject index. Grab some stunning team and community map models for your Reaction Quake 3 maps. If you're a modeller, feel free to submit any future or current map objects you've made for Reaction Quake 3.
The Closet - A place for mappers to grab files and programs that will make your Reaction Quake 3 map making easier.
As always, you can ask us questions in the mapping forum. Action Quake 2 was a mod built on the back of its community and we want Reaction Quake 3 to be the same.
Finally, if you see Lath from The NGL give him a big 'thank you' for doing all the coding for the new sites, and Shenka for doing all the designs.
Welcome!
P.S. We still have a good amount of map objects to upload so keep on checking back over the next day or so.
